is a very unique community with its’ rich history, many different ethnic groups, casinos, and outdoor recreational opportunities. This 300 year old city is known for its’ joyful attitude of “let the good times roll,” and this attitude is reflected in the many festivals, parades, Mardi Gras celebrations and general pleasantries of the city’s people. Biloxi has a prime location along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a mild year-round climate, and it’s one of the safest cities in the south in which to live. In 1992, the city decided to legalize dockside gambling, and the revenues from this, has allowed them to add 50-60 police officers to its force. The city fire department is one of the best trained in the state and has some of the newest state-of-the-art equipment. Biloxi’s schools also rank as one of the best in the state consistently each year. There are seven elementary schools in town, three junior high schools and one high school. Healthcare is top notch in Biloxi. Two community hospitals are located in the city, and Keesler Air Force Base operates the second largest hospital in the U.S. Air Force in Biloxi. The city’s major industries are tourism, hospitality, construction and gaming. A 2000 travel survey by Foders/ASTA named the Mississippi Gulf Coast as one of the top three “up and coming destinations in North America” in their Annual “Hot Spot” Survey. The great weather in Biloxi also adds to its’ popularity because it means year-round outdoor recreation. There are over 20 public golf courses in the area, dozens of boat charters, excellent fishing opportunities, five multi-purpose community centers, 28 parks, 3 tennis courts, a senior citizens center and several public fishing piers, in addition to its’ miles of beautiful, white sand beaches.
